This week’s 52 Books in 52 Weeks review is probably the shortest you’ll see me write. But it’s for a very good reason.
Two words: oh, my.
The Poison Artist
Pages per day: 39
I honestly have no idea how to start this book review. The only thing I can think of to say about The Poison Artist is that is it pretty much the most amazing book I’ve ever read.
The Poison Artist is told from the point of view of Caleb, head of a toxicology lab and recent recipient of a nice gash to the head from a glass thrown by his girlfriend. Throughout the course of this story, we are lead on an incredibly gripping path of mysterious women, the study of pain, speakeasy bars, corpses, absinthe and some of the most beautiful writing your eyes will ever have the pleasure of reading. The research and the detail that has gone in to every aspect of this story is astounding.
To be honest with you, writing about this book is hard not only because no review could ever do it justice, but also that I am so fearful of giving anything away. Each aspect of this story is so important that it’s hard to describe it at all without fear of ruining it for you, so I won’t bother. This will probably be the shortest book review I do throughout this challenge, simply because I don’t think there’s another book that exists that is quite like this one.
All I can say is please, please read this book. Jonathan Moore has some of – if not the – most beautiful writing I have ever read. This book is a gem. You can pick it up from Book Depository here. If you get your hands on this book, please let me know what you think – I would love to hear whether you loved it as much as I did!
